Welcome to the first ever gear review on PolishSoccer.net. Today we take a look at the new Poland Jersey. As it has been for the past few years the Poland jersey is produced by Nike. Like any other Nike soccer jersey it is made with Dri-FIT material which is light and comfortable. The authentic tag is on the bottom left side with white and silver lettering.
The front features the traditional Polish Eagle now in the centre like it was in the 70's and 80's. This is a change from recent history as it has appeared "over the heart" on the Nike jersey from the Word Cup 2010 qualifying campaign as well as the older Puma jerseys from the 2002 and 2006 World Cups. The reason for it appearing in the centre may not be entirely due to tradition. When this design first debuted it only had the new stylized PZPN logo with no Eagle Crest. This obviously caused some uproar in Poland. The crest was soon returned to the jersey. This makes for a bit of a cluttered area on the chest with the crest, and both the PZPN, and Nike logos. The the logos are some kind of rubbery iron-on and only time will tell how well they hold up to repeated washings. Previous Nike jerseys featured a stitched on Nike logo. The Eagle Crest is still sewn on.
Below all that is a red rectangle to represent the bottom half of the Polish flag. This is something that did not appeal to me at first but has grown on me. In this context the crest in the middle makes sense since that is where it would appear on the flag. It's just too bad it has to compete for attention with the two logos.
A rather nice detail are the words "razem o zwyciestwo" inside the back of the collar. It stands for "together for the win."
So as far as material goes this is far superior to the Puma jerseys from 2002 and 2006. But if you already have the very nice Nike jersey that was available before this one came out you will have to decide if you can live with the rather cluttered design.
