Although Poland managed to capture third place at the World Cup for the second time in eight years it was not as impressive as in 1974. Unlike in West Germany, where the no one would have been surprised to see Poland in the final, in Spain a place in the final would have been a miracle. Poland did show some flashes of brilliance against Peru, Belgium, and even France. But clearly the magic was gone.
