Leading the Premier League to boot with just 10 matches left to play this season in the domestic league, Liverpool added to their trophy cabinet this afternoon in London, with van Dijk finally finding the net deep into extra time against Chelsea, heading home from a corner – after seeing an earlier effort ruled out for offside.

Following their Carabao Cup success – their second in the last three seasons against London side, Chelsea, Liverpool have now seen their odds of landing the FA Cup slashed as low as +350 – sat just behind holders, Manchester City.

And fans of the Merseyside club can find odds on a host of matches still to play this year over at the Promoguy – who are offering bettors and punters alike the opportunity to bet on a host of competitions and sports before the summer break this season.

Fighting off a late surge from Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea side, Liverpool had to call on Irish goalkeeper, Caoimhin Kelleher on numerous occasions – particularly late in the 90 minutes, with the shot stopper preventing midfielder Conor Gallagher finding the net in a guilt edge chance.

Facing a massive battle to prevent the dominant side of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City from fighting back to clinch a record-setting fourth straight Premier League crown, Liverpool’s chances of landing just their second Premier League title were greatly enhanced this week with a 4-1 win over promoted side, Luton Town at Anfield in their most recent league match.

Furthermore, with German head coach, Jürgen Klopp set to depart the dugout at the end of the season, added emphasis is on the Liverpool players to deliver further success for the departting manager this season, in the form of a potential domestic cup double and a Premier League win.

With Klopp set to leave Liverpool come the end of the season, high-flying Spaniard, Xabi Alonso is said to be top of the Merseyside club’s list of managerial targets to replace the former, as he looks to guide German side, Bayer Leverkusen to a stunning Bundesliga title victory this season.

Amongst the likes of former Liverpool midfield maestro, Alonso sees Sporting Lisbon head coach, Ruber Amorin, as well as former Bayern Munich and Red Bull Leipzig head coach, Julan Nagelsmann, who has taken the reigns with the German national team ahead of the European Championships this summer, following his exit from the Allianz Arena.

As far as this season is to play out, however, Liverpool take on Championship side, Southampton following prior third and fourth round wins over Norwich City, and Arsenal, respectively.

In the league, Liverpool return to action on Saturday as they travel to the City Ground to take on Nottingham Forrest.

Xabi Alonso emerges as betting favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager next season https://soccerballworld.com/xabi-alonso-betting-favorite-liverpool-manager/ Sat, 27 Jan 2024 19:15:48 +0000 https://soccerballworld.com/?p=3665 Amid the shocking news of his impending departure from Anfield at the end of this season, the bookies have named former Liverpool midfield veteran, Xabi Alonso as the betting favorite to land in the dugout, ahead of the exit from German coach, Jurgen Klopp.

Yesterday morning, an official statement from Liverpool confirmed how long-time head coach, Klopp would be ending his eight-and-a-half-year stint as the manager at the club come the end of this season, citing a lack of energy to continue in the role, “again and again and again”.

Currently sitting top of the Premier League table, Klopp’s Liverpool side find themselves five points clear from defending champions, Manchester City, however, Spanish coach, Pep Guardiola’s side have a game-in-hand over the Reds.

And with a massive change in terms of management and sporting director set to come in the new season, Klopp’s successor at Liverpool is most likely to come in the form of former Spanish international, Xabi Alonso, who is the current betting favorite.

Xabi Alonso favorite to replace Jurgen Klopp

Leading German-side, Bayer Leverkusen from certain relegation last season, Alonso’s side currently sit atop the Bundesliga, with betting odds in the region of -175 to replace Klopp ahead of next season.

If Premier League fans are interested in betting on the future of Alonso in the Anfield dugout, they can place bets and wagers on a slew of sites – and ahead of the impending MLS season kick-off in the United States and Canada, fans can also try their luck with Minnesota online casinos – in what promises to be a massive season in the conference for Minnesota United.

Commenting on speculation regarding a potential future move to Liverpool from Leverkusen, Alonso, who previously managed Real Madrid’s youth team as well as ‘B-team of La Liga side, Real Sociedad – remained coy on links with a move to Anfield.

As far as former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher is concerned, between Alonso and current Brighton & Hove Albion coach, Roberto De Zerbi, his former teammate should be the “frontrunner” to land the vacant job in the summer.

“You think of all the managers he (Xabi Alonso) has worked under, Rafa Benitez at Liverpool, Jose Mourinho, Carlo Ancelotti, and all of these great figures,” Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports News. “And right now, with the job he is doing at Bayer Leverkusen he almost looks like the brightest young thing in European football, there is no doubt about that.”

“I would certainly say the frontrunner and I think it’s too rich me saying it, would certainly be Xabi Alsono – for the job he is doing at Bayer Leverkusen, who are still the only undefeated team in Europe in all competitions. There is a long way to go but they are in a great position. I think for what he has achieved, the managers he has played under, and the start he has made to his managerial career, he is certainly the frontrunner.”

A former midfield holder for Liverpool, Alonso joined from Sociedad back in 2004, before going on to make 210 appearances in all competitions. In 2009, Alonso made a £30,000,000 move to Real Madrid, before then closing out his career with Bayern Munich back in 2017.

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah tipped to clinch UEFA Champions League top goalscorer award https://soccerballworld.com/liverpool-forward-mohamed-salah-tipped-to-clinch-uefa-champions-league-top-goalscorer-award/ Sun, 06 Nov 2022 01:34:30 +0000 https://soccerballworld.com/?p=2625
Mohamed Salah

Netting eight separate times during last year’s UEFA Champions League campaign – which saw Liverpool finish runners up behind Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, Egyptian forward, Mohamed Salah has been touted as a potential winner of this season’s top goalscorer award.

Salah, who currently leads this season’s top goalscorer charts with seven goals in the group stage alongside Paris Saint Germain frontman, Kylian Mbappe, guided his team to second place in Group A – behind Italian side, Napoli who managed to trounce the Jurgen Klopp-led side in Naples in their reverse clash.

A bright spark in an interchanging front three of Luis Diaz, Roberto Firmino, and Diogo Jota, Salah has been a relative source of joy for the Kop this season – as part of a tumultuous and topsy-turvy campaign for Klopp’s side, both domestically and in European competition.

Available as still quite an outside bet behind the aforenoted, Mbappe, and Manchester City striker, Erling Haaland – who has found the net five times in the Champions League as part of his stunning goalscoring exploits this season, online free spins casino place Salah at worthy odds to end this year’s campaign as top goalscorer.

Last campaign’s top goalscorer award went to recent FIFA Ballon D’or winner, Karim Benzema, with the Real Madrid talisman guiding Ancelotti’s side to tournament success against Liverpool – netting a whopping 15 times throughout the group stage and as part of stunning knockout ties for Los Blancos

Following a surprisingly quiet season last year – at least by his standards, Argentine forward and six time top goalscorer victor, Lionel Messi has kicked on this season in Paris alongside Mbappe and Brazilian playmaker, Neymar – finding the net himself 4 times throughout the group stage.

Polish frontman, Robert Lewandowski is also out of the running to win this season’s UEFA Champions League, with his Barcelona side dumped out at the group stage, despite the former Bayern Munich man scoring 5 times in 5 group stage appearances. Barcelona are set to feature in the UEFA Europa League in the new year, with the Catalan side slated to compete in a two legged affair with a chance to reach the last 16.

Topping a solid Group B which included both Bayer Leverkusen, and Diego Simeone’s Athletico Madrid, FC Porto see their attack spearheaded by Iranian striker, Mehdi Taremi – who has continued his goalscoring exploits since arriving from Rio Ave two season’s ago – scoring 5 times in the group stage, landing him beside both Lewandowski, and Haaland.

For Serie A victors, AC Milan, the Rossoneri finished behind Chelsea in second place in Group B – progressing to the knockout phase courtesy of French maestro, Olivier Giroud. Led by Stefano Pioli, Milan have developed an energetic and technical group of players following a gold drought in the Italian capital in the last decade, spearheaded by Giroud, Portuguese sensation, Rafael Leao, as well as serial winner, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is touted to soon return from a knee injury suffered at the tail end of last season.
