Man United lose ground in race for Viktor Gyokeres as Arsenal emerge as betting favorites to sign Swede striker
Man United look destined to miss out on another striking option in their summer window pursuit of Sporting Lisbon forward, Viktor Gyokeres — with the Swede reportedly weighing up interest from Premier League rivals, Arsenal instead.
United, who have bolstered their fleeting attacking options this summer already, confirmed the acquisition of Brazilian forward, Matheus Cunha from Wolves earlier this month — in a reported £62.5 million move from Molineaux.
To boot, Man United are reportedly locked in talks for some weeks now to sign Cameroonian right-sided forward, Bryan Mbuemo, from high-risers, Brentford — but both parties are some way apart in valuation of the free-scoring frontman.

But losing ground in their race to sign Swedish striker, Viktor Gyokeres, to begin this week, Man United have drifted to 6/4 to sign the ex-Coventry striker. To boot, Arsenal have now moved into pole position — boasting 4/5 betting favorite odds.

Linked with a move for goalscoring talent, Gyokeres for months now, United have been tied to a move for the Swede since Ruben Amorim’s arrival in the dugout last November. Having previously managed Gyokeres during a stunning run in Portugal up top at Sporting Lisbon.

However, missing out on UEFA Champions League football next year following their faltering UEFA Europa League 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur, Man United will not enter European competition next season in any capacity.
And given the financial setback imposed by a lack of European football, United also face some fierce talks and outlining of future projects in order to entice talent to make the shift to the faltering Manchester side.
Having already missed out on Ipswich Town striker, Liam Delap this summer to UEFA Conference League winners, Chelsea, United face to sign a striker faces another setback with the latest news of Gyokeres.
Namely, United are reportedly in the market for the likes of Victor Osimhen, who may be available at a cut price from Serie A winners, Napoli. However, the Nigerian goalscorer is expected to command a huge wage should he make the move to England.
Furthermore, Canadian forward Jonathan David has long been linked with a move to the Premier League. And this summer, he is available on a free transfer, with his contract with Ligue 1 side, Lille expiring. While Liverpool and Arsenal have been circling the impressive forward, he is expected to also seek out a massive signing-on fee.
Another potential option for Man United is emerging Austian talent, Benjamin Sesko, however, the Red Bull Leipzig striker has been heavily linked with a move to Arsenal this month, already. However, it’s currently unknown if the North London club will pursue both Sesko and Gyokeres to an end this summer.

To boot, the future of Rasmus Hojlund at United remains more up in the air than ever this summer. Amid links to a return to Serie A with the likes of Internazionale and Juventus interested, the Dane remains interested in a stay at Old Trafford.
Struggling for attacking options beyond Hojlund throughout the season, United find themselves a long ways away from forces like Cole, Yorke, Sheringham, and Solskjaer pulling the strings in the final third.
