Polish "B" Team Wins Against Latvia

With just 16 days to go until Euro 2012 Poland beat Latvia 1-0 in a friendly match.  The match took place in Austria where the National Team has been brought together to prepare for the tournament.  This match was a chance for some of the outsiders to show that they deserve a place on the final 23-man roster.  The winning goal was scored by Artur Sobiech from a Kamil Grosicki cross.

Poland's best players watched from the stands.  Robert Lewandowski, Lukasz Piszczek, Wojciech Szczesny, Kamil Glik, Dariusz Dudka, Maciej Rybus, Ludovic Obraniak and Damien Perquis didn't see much that would make them think their spots in the starting 11 were in any danger.  Although the defence didn't make any big mistakes going forward the display was rather poor.  Despite the goal, Sobiech, and Pawel Brozek both showed the effects of having played very little at their respective clubs this past season.  Debutant Rafal Wolski showed glimpses of quality as did Adrian Mierzejewski.  However, it was Grosicki who made the best case at being included in the final squad.

One surprise in the starting line up was the presence of Lukasz Fabianski between the sticks instead of Przemyslaw Tyton.  He repaid for coach Franciszek Smuda faith in him with a confident performance and looks to be the number two choice behind his Arsenal team mate, Szczesny.
