Jacek Krzynówek, a left-sided midfield player, is one of the finest Polish players of his generation.

Krzynówek made his Poland debut in November 1998 against Slovakia, and cemented his place in the squad, helping them to the 2002 FIFA World Cup finals. He was named man of the match in the 3-1 win against the United States, Poland's sole victory in Korea/Japan. He has since passed the 40-cap mark.

After starting his career with Raków Czestochowa, Krzynówek joined GKS Belchatów in 1997/98. He was then brought to Germany by 1. FC Nürnberg in 1999, initially on loan in the 2. Bundesliga.

1999: After missing promotion narrowly in his first season, Krzynówek helped Nürnberg clinch the second division title in 2000/01. He continued as a regular in the top division, though he missed the start of the 2002/03 season with a cruciate ligament injury as his side were relegated.

2003/04: Krzynowek performed superbly as Nürnberg again won the second division title, but in May he agreed to join Bayer 04 Leverkusen on a free transfer.

At the start of the 2004/05 season he helped them beat FC Baník Ostrava to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage.

In the Champions League group stage he scored the first goal in a 3-0 win over Real Madrid. He follwed that up with the winning goal in a 3-1 defeat of Italian side Roma.
